Using Call Waiting with Internet Call Manager
It is important to disable Call Waiting before using a modem. This keeps the Call Waiting beep from
disrupting your Internet connection and disconnecting you from the Internet. For Internet Call Manager
to work properly, you must turn off your Call Waiting when you dial up your Internet service. The
simplest way to disable Call Waiting in your modem dialer is to add it to your modem's initialization
string. Simply add "*70," in front of the number for your ISP. To do so:
- In your dialer that you use to connect to the Internet, look under "Properties" and check the box that disables Call Waiting.
- Next, go back to the first window of your dialer. Look at the number that will be dialed to connect you to the Internet.
- If "*70," is not at the beginning of the number, please manually add it before the Internet Service Provider's number you call to connect to the Internet. (For example: *70, 555-5555)
- When you finish with your Internet connection, Call Waiting is automatically turned on again for regular telephone use.
Using Distinctive Ring With Internet Call Manager
Distinctive Ring is a service that provides you with up to two additional phone numbers associated with the same physical phone line. ICM may NOT be used on additional distinctive ring numbers, however, you may use ICM on your basic phone line if it has distinctive ring.
