Calling Services: Talking Call Waiting

How to use Talking Call Waiting

When you are on the phone and a second call comes in, you will hear a Call Waiting tone followed by the name of the person calling.

  • If the call is from outside of Cincinnati Bell's territory, you'll hear the city and state of the caller, instead of the name.
  • If the caller is calling from a private line or is blocking their calling information (using *67 per call blocking), you will hear "Private Name".
After the name, another Call Waiting beep will follow. The name will only be voiced one time. If you wish to speak to the caller, briefly press the receiver button or "flash" key on your phone to put the first call on hold and take the second call. You can continue to switch between callers until one of the callers hangs up. During the voicing of the name to you, your first caller will hear a brief mute of the conversation. As with traditional Call Waiting, you can use *70 to cancel Talking Call Waiting on a per call basis.

If you have Caller ID on Call Waiting (or Call Waiting Deluxe)

If you subscribe to Caller ID and Call Waiting (or Call Waiting Deluxe ), then a service called Caller ID on Call Waiting is also on your line (there is no monthly fee). This service allows certain compatible Caller ID equipment to show who is calling for Call Waiting calls. Talking Call Waiting will detect if you are talking on an extension that has a Call Waiting capable Caller ID display unit. If you are, then the Caller ID information will be delivered to your box, and you will not hear Talking Call Waiting. If you happen to be talking on a cordless phone that is attached to a Call Waiting Caller ID box, then you will not hear Talking Call Waiting! If you are on another extension in the house that doesn't have a Call Waiting Caller ID display attached to it, then you will hear the name.

If you have Reveal

If you have Reveal service and Caller ID on Call Waiting- then calls taken on an extension with a Call Waiting Caller ID capable unit will show the caller's information entered into Reveal as normal, and you will not hear Talking Call Waiting as described above. If you are on an extension that has no Call Waiting Caller ID capable unit attached to it, then Reveal will intercept an unidentified call and ask the caller to enter their number. Talking Call Waiting will only voice "Private Number" to you- you will not hear the name associated with the number the caller entered into Reveal.
