What is Community Connection and why is it on my bill?

Basically, these calls are not considered "long distance", however, they are barely outside of the local calling area.

Community Connection is a one-way or two-way usage sensitive (measured) service currently provided to certain exchanges in Ohio. Community Connection is designed to satisfy the daily calling requirements of customers which are not properly met by the combination of toll service and local calling confined to their local calling area. In effect, it is a form of measured Extended Area Service (EAS) because it is less expensive than toll service. Community Connection is CBT’s name for measured rate EAS. Other companies use other names such as Extended Local Calling Plan or Extended Local Calling Service.

I see a summary total of my Community Connection charges, how can I see the details of these calls (i.e. - number dialed, rate per minute, etc.)?

Normally, call details on Community Connection calls are not provided. A summary of calls made will be included in your standard monthly bill. If you wish to see call details each month, one of our Customer Service Representatives will be happy to assist you. Simply call us at 513-565-2210 or toll free at 1-866-565-2210.

How is it different from my Cincinnati Bell Long Distance?

Generally speaking, Community Connection rates have a lower per minute rate than most long distance plans. It was designed to offer a lower rate to save customers money for calls that were not considered "local", but not necessisarily "long distance". Can I do anything to avoid Community Connection fees in the future?

Yes, but only if you are a Cincinnati Bell Long Distance customer (bundle customers use Cincinnati Bell Long Distance). Prior to placing a call to this area, follow these steps:

  • dial 1010654
  • dial 1
  • dial Area Code
  • dial 7-digit phone number

Dialing 1010654 will allow the call to be connected and billed based on your Long Distance plan.
